At Carter Sledge Family Dentistry, we utilize the CEREC® crown restoration system to provide our patients with same-day dental crown services. A dental crown covers tooth decay or cavities, restoring the tooth’s original strength and size while improving the appearance. Traditional crowns involve a process of consultation, measurements, and repeated office visits.
With the CEREC® crown restoration system, we are now able to condense the entire process to one day. CEREC® stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics and utilizes CAD/CAM technology, meaning it incorporates a computer, camera, and milling machine in one instrument.
The process works by first taking a picture of the damaged tooth. After the camera has the photo, it transfers the optical impression to be displayed on a computer screen. We will then use Computer Aided Design technology to create the crown restoration. When the design is complete, the Computer Aided Manufacturing creates the restoration within a few hours. We will bond this new crown to the surface of the old tooth, and then you may resume your regular activities.
